The Godfather Returns Review

Bah! Finished reading The Godfather returns by Mark Winegardner. Firstly, before reading the book, I was excited because it is the sequel of one of my favorite books - The Godfather. But I was a bit skeptical because it was not written by Mario Puzo.

As I read the first pages, I can't help but yawn. Though the flyleafs tells that this book is great and all, I have to object. Well, Cloz said that I should watch the movie first so I can appreciate it, but our PC don't play DVD9 discs so, to hell with it!

The book's story (for me) is a friggin' jigsaw puzzle! Lot's of side stories that was supposed to be interwoven as one. But for me, it failed, big time. There are juicy parts but the rest sucks. There are a number of times that I skipped some paragraphs because its just too damn boring. There are lots of new characters aside from the original ones, and because they have names that's hard to pronounce, you forget them and wonder the second time or third time you read their names again, who the hell are them?

But at least, in the end (which is not as explosive as the ones in the original), you get to see that everything falls into place though it was not planned that way. Anyways, this book is a must read if you are a fan and if you are curious of what the hell happened to Michael and the rest of the Corleones.

Capiche!
