Pursuit of Happyness

Watched the Will Smith movie “Pursuit of Happyness” at ATC last Saturday night. While standing in line, I was wondering why they spelled “Happyness” wrong. Or is it just me because it might be the right spelling all along? So, my critic self have to find out.

The movie is a true to life story about Chris Gardner whom I do not know who the hell he is (which brought me to open a new browser window and wiki his ass). Apparently, this movie relates this multi millionaire’s humble beginnings. Humble his beginnings indeed; He was a Bone Density Scanner sales-man, well, that was the movie said – and if you have a question regarding what a Bone Density Scanner is, wiki it yourself because I don’t know it myself. Okay, so he was a sales-man and he got a wife and a kid and he is trying his hardest to make ends meet. He is bankrupt and all because he was “tricked” into (buying and) selling these scanners when he thought that it would sell like pancakes in hospitals. So his landlord is after him all day, a friend won’t pay his debts, he has problems with his marriage because of financial issues and all hell breaks loose in Chris’ life.

So we are given a movie with a man’s struggle to provide better life for his son. His wife left them because she thinks nothing will happen with Chris. Chris, smart as he is, landed an internship at a brokerage firm (because the boss was impressed when he solved the rubix cube which was the current hype at that time). Being an intern means that you get training (which will eventually lead to being hired and being paid) but Chris is not paid salary yet. So he got all money what’s left of him and struggled for 6 months.

After all what happened (bankruptcy, sleeping in CRs, wife leaving him) in the end, Chris triumphed. And look where he is now? (I know you can’t because we all don’t know who the hell he is) So don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do this, you can’t do that. You have to persevere in life. You have to gather all your energy and focus them to what you goal is. In the end, you will be happy. Just pursue what makes you happy and in the end, everything will be alright.

In life you will be in different areas of the happiness spectrum, sometimes, you will be in the negative end, sometimes, you will be in the happier part. In times when you are down and left with nothing but yourself, you should find the courage to endure the loneliness that consumes you and in the end, when the smoke has cleared, you will be left smiling. Smiling and happy then the pursuit of your own happiness will end, and you will try to pursue happiness of the others who mattered.
