Fortune's Hand - Book Review.

Finished Fortune's hand by Belva Plain after three days of reading. I could have finished this in one sitting, maybe on weekends, but I stumbled upon the book on a weekday, which means office day, so I finished it longer that I expected. Anyways, this book's genre is different from the ones I usually read, so it was a fresh experience.

Ok, on with my pseudo-review:

I don't know who the hell is Belva Plain is but her writing is superb. Methapors litter the book. Methapors that seems so unfitting, but when you look at the bigger scenario, the bigger picture, it fits. Perfectly. The story is also superb. Though at first, you seem to find the twist predictable but it is where the fun starts - You have the urge to find out what will really happen. Then if what you reckon happens, you'll mutter to yourself - "I said so!" But if it did not materialize, the revelations will shock you. It is not as action packed, suspenseful or grandoise as the books I usually read, but the simplicity of this book is what it makes it such a jewel. I thought this genre is for women, but after reading the book, after the emotions I felt, it's for everyone.

Story:

Robb MacDaniel was a simple country lad. He led a simple life, content with it until Fortune's Hand played with him. (thus the title) One incident changed his life forever - An accident. After the accident, new thoughts flooded his mind. He now did not want to stay at their farm. To forget all that happened, he went to study at the city.

He made choices. He won, he lose. He triumphed at most of it. Was convinced with his life. Until he wanted more. He could have the perfect life. He had the life he wanted. His longing for something more made him take some drastic choices.

And then he lost everything.

The super moral of the story:
In the end, after all the mistakes, the turmoil, the triumphs and the joys, if you are left with love - you are left with everything.
