The chance of your fate.
"Mr. Vela, have you decided already?"
Mr. Atendido's inquiry still felt like a freight train colliding head on with my fragile body. I only saw the blue sky, few pints of crimson blood and an entanglement of arms and legs. Debris flew everywhere. There were loud gasps upon the unfortunate few that witnessed the commotion. Then I felt everything went pitch black. Then there was light... and freedom.
"Yes, sir."
Four months of sadness and secret weeping everytime the thought accumulates and then I cannot bear it anymore. Bursting into tears is like a welcome reminder that everything is not that easy. Failure reminds us that even though you know you are better than half the people you know, fate chooses no one. Fate is not based on how well you did at school and the amount of things you have learned. It is based solely on chance.
I have read an article when I was in High School about fire:
"For the same Fire, that melts butter, Hardens steel."
We are like the butter. Failure is like the fire. Failure melts us down to our knees, weeping and silenlty gasping for help and redemption but at the same time, failure molds us into a better person. Our chinks in our emotional armors being welded to better suit the environments. With our hearts and will stronger, nothing can come you way and make you kneel down in defeat.
This time, I will be fine. Goodbye, my lonely life. This time, I will be free.
